Sweethearts is a vibrant new hospitality venue that breathes new life into the old Darwin cinema. Repurposed by the Cinema Collective, Sweethearts fills a unique gap in the market for small to mid-sized function spaces while offering a large restaurant, bar, and nightclub with live music every night of the week.
The design of Sweethearts blends modern, earthy, and moody elements with an industrial edge, carefully crafted to enhance the venue’s dynamic atmosphere. With a strong focus on the acoustics, particularly given its function as a nightlife and music hub, the design incorporates several innovative solutions to manage sound. Zintra 12mm Plain Panels in Tar were used on the ceilings and select doors, effectively blacking out the ceiling while providing sound absorption. Above the bar, Zintra Beams Closed Rafters help to absorb noise from the bustling environment, creating a more comfortable acoustic experience. Additionally, Zintra Sticks Wide in Spotted Gum timber were strategically placed on the ceiling near the kitchen and ordering area to manage sound and reduce disruptions in this high-traffic zone. The thoughtful combination of these materials helps maintain the venue's vibrant energy while ensuring it remains acoustically balanced for both patrons and performers.
